The Bible gives clear principles for building strong and successful Christian marriages and families. We are firmly committed to those principles here at LSC, in a day in which they are being challenged. The following paragraphs describe a concise biblical standard which we have adopted as the criteria for having a wedding performed by our Pastor. It is with much prayer and experience that we make these statements and truths and we trust that those who decide to be guided by these standards are setting their relationships on biblical standards.

Marriage: A Sacred Picture

Marriage is the most beautiful and sacred picture of the relationship between Christ and His Bride (the Church). This is best reflected in the lives of Christians as a testimony to their commitment to Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of their lives. A successful marriage is rooted in a couple’s devotion to a daily walk with God, love for His Word and prayer, and fellowship with other believers. (Proverbs 18:22, Ephesians 5:22-24, 25-29, Ephesians 5:30-33, Mathew 18:20, Hebrews 13:1-5; Colossians 3:18-19, 23

A Nurturing Environment

The local church has been established by Christ as representative of His body on earth. Within the Church, God provides a nurturing environment with order, pastoral leadership, accountability, and protection for the believer. This relationship with a caring, committed Church is of strategic importance to building a successful marriage and family life. We recommend that couples who are interested in marriage commit to becoming active members of a local church. (Ephesians 4:11-16, Hebrews 10:24,25; 13:17)

A Lifetime Covenant

God’s Word clearly teaches that marriage is a lifetime covenant. This standard set by God has been compromised widely, and that an ever-increasing number of marriages are being broken by divorce. We ask that those considering marriage enter into this relationship not hastily, but after careful consideration and with a lifetime commitment. (Mark 10:6-9, Genesis 2:18-23, Genesis 2:24)

The Pre-Marriage Counseling Process

The lifetime success of a marriage depends largely on the foundation upon which it has been built. Therefore it is a requirement that couples interested in marriage at LSC engage in pre-marital counseling. Our pre-marriage counseling will focus on gaining unity through understanding God’s purpose for marriage, the individual responsibilities of husband and wife, good communication and the spiritual life of the family. (I Peter 5:1-8, Proverbs 4 & 5)

The Pastor can offer a pre-marriage sessions for engaged persons who desire broader and better understanding and preparation for marriage.

The Wedding Reception

We encourage that a couple desiring to please God will want their wedding reception to reflect the standards upon which their marriage is based. The reception is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for testimony to be given to family and friends. (Colossians 3:17, I Thessalonians 5:22)
