“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6 (KJV)

SERMON OVERVIEW:

All the benefits of Psalm 23 are for those who trust in the Lord as their shepherd. In verse 6 the emphasis is on God’s goodness and mercy as His goodness watches over us, His grace works in us, and His glory waits for us. We can live fully and fearlessly by staying grateful and generous, being gracious to everyone and living our lives for God’s glory. His mercy and goodness are a constant in our lives as He follows us through this life and into eternity. Even though bad things happen in life, God is there to bring good out of it when I walk in faith instead of fear, with a heart that is grateful and generous. “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,  and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6 (KJV)

I. I DONT NEED TO FEAR THE FUTURE . . .

1. BECAUSE GOD’S GOODNESS IS WATCHING OVER ME

“Surely goodness . . . will follow me all the days of my life” Psalm 23:6a (KJV)

The Lord watches over all who love Him …” Psalm 145:20 (NIV)

“The Lord is your Protector, and He won’t go to sleep or let you be defeated. Your Protector doesn’t doze or ever get drowsy.” Psalm 121:3-4 (CEV/NCV)

“We know that all that happens to us is working for our good IF we love God and are fitting into His plans.”  Romans 8:28 (TLB)

2. BECAUSE GOD’S GRACE IS WORKING IN ME.

“Surely . . . mercy will follow me all the days of my life” Psalm 23:6a (KJV)

“I will have mercy on you through my grace.”   Isaiah 60:10 (TLB)

“I will not forget the glorious things God does for me. He forgives all my sins. He heals me. He ransoms me from hell. He surrounds me with loving-kindness . . . He fills my life with good things … He is merciful and tender toward those who don’t deserve it; He is slow to get angry … He never bears a grudge … He has not punished us as we deserve for all our sins, for HIS MERCY … is as great as the height of the heavens …  He is like a father to us, tender and sympathetic to those who reverence Him.” Psalm 103: 2-13 (TLB)

Let us, then, feel very sure that we can come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we can receive mercy and grace to help us when we need it” Hebrews 4:16 (NCV)

3. GOD’S GLORY IS WAITING FOR ME

“and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6 (KJV)

God wanted to reveal His abundant glory, which was poured out on us who are the objects of His mercy, and whom He has prepared in advance to receive His glory!”  Romans 9:23 (GN)

II. HOW TO LIVE FULLY & FEARLESSLY

1. I MUST STAY GRATEFUL AND GENEROUS BECAUSE GOD IS SO GOOD TO ME

Give thanks to the Lord because He is good, because His mercy endures forever.Psalm 118:29 (GW)

“We have been given possession of an unshakable kingdom. Let us therefore be grateful and use our gratitude to worship God in the way that pleases Him with reverence and awe.” Hebrews 12:28 (NJB)

Jesus: “You have been treated generously, so live generously. Give as freely as you have received.” Matthew 10:8 (MSG/NLT)

Good will come to him who is generous. Such people lend freely, and conduct their affairs honestly. They will never be shaken … They don’t fear bad news because they trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless in facing their opposition! Because they give generously to those in need, they will have influence and honor.”  Psalm 112:5-9 (NIV/NLT)

2. I MUST BE GRACIOUS TO EVERYONE BECAUSE GOD IS SO GRACIOUS WITH ME.

“Be kind and merciful, and forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ.” Ephesians 4:32 (CEV)

“There is no fear in love. Instead perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears has not matured in love.”   1 John 4:18 (NIV)

3. LIVE MY LIFE FOR GOD’S GLORY BECAUSE HE WILL SHARE HIS GLORY WITH ME.

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (ESV)

“God, in His divine power, has given us everything we need for living a godly life. This power is given to us through knowing Jesus. And He has called us to share in His own goodness and glory!  2 Peter 1:3
