Enduring Life’s Storms- Pt2

ASSURANCES TO ENDURE LIFE’S STORMS – Pt 2

Matthew 14:22-33, Mark 6:45-52, John 6:15-21

“Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd.  After leaving them, he went up alone on a mountainside to pray.  When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land.  He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them.  About the fourth watch of the night he went out to them, walking on the lake.  He was about to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost! They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified.  Immediately he spoke to them and said, ‘Take courage! It is I.  Don’t be afraid.’ Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down.  They were completely amazed, for they had not under-stood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.”  Mark 6:45-52 (NIV)

WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN  I’M EXPERIENCING LIFE’S STORMS?

  1. HAVE COURAGE BECAUSE JESUS IS WITH ME

Jesus  “Don’t be afraid, take courage!  The I AM is here!” Mark 6:50 (NLT)

“God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of Power, and of Love and of a sound Sound Mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

“My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me. When I am afraid, I put my trust in YouIn God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Psalm 56:2-4 (NIV)

GOD: “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

You belong to God, my dear children. YOU HAVE ALREADY WON A VICTORY … because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” 1 John 4:4 (NLT)

  1. YOU NEED TO TAKE A RISK IN FAITH

“‘Lord, if it’s you,’ Peter replied, ‘tell me to come to you on the water!’ ‘Come,’ Jesus said.  So Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.”  Matthew 14:28-29 (NIV)

Lesson #1: It Is Safer To Be With Jesus Out Of The Boat Than In The Boat Without Jesus.

“When you pass through deep waters, I WILL BE WITH YOU; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burned; the hard trials that come will not hurt you.” Isaiah 43:2 (NLT)

Lesson #2: Faith Always Pleases God!

“Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

  1. STAY FOCUSED ON JESUS

“But when Peter looked around at the high waves, he was terrified and began to sink.  ‘Save me, Lord!’ he shouted.’”  Matthew 14:30 (LB)

“If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself.” Proverbs 3:4-5 (LB)

  1. DON’T DOUBT

“Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.  ‘You of little faith,’ He said, ‘Why did you doubt?’”  Matthew 14:31 (NIV)

“Because the people did not have any faith, Jesus did not work many miracles there.” Matthew 13:58 (CEV)

“Such people [doubter] should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do” James 1:7-8 (NLT)

  1. PRAISE GOD

“’When Jesus climbed into the boat, the wind died down.  Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God.’”  Matthew 14:32-33 (NIV)

“Fig trees may no longer bloom,  or vineyards produce grapes; olive trees may be fruitless,  and harvest time a failure … but I will still celebrate because the Lord God saves me. Habakkuk 3:17-18 (CEV)
